CT scans use X-rays to create cross-sectional images, while MRIs use a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of soft tissues. CTs are faster and often used for emergencies, while MRIs provide more detail for soft tissue structures like the brain, spinal cord, and joints.

No. While X-rays, CT scans, PET scans, and fluoroscopies involve ionizing radiation, ultrasounds and MRI do not use radiation, making them safe alternatives for certain diagnostic needs, especially for pregnant women and children.

The time to receive results can vary depending on the type of exam and the urgency. Your referring physician will typically receive the report within a few days, and they will discuss the findings with you. You may also be able to view your results through MyChart.
