St. Luke’s Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery’s 3rd annual Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day event, “The Girls” Night Out, raised more than $14,000, all of which will be used to support local breast cancer patients. The event was a carnival-themed evening held at Homewood Suites in Center Valley on October 10.
This was the third year of the event held in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Each year, the amount of money raised has increased significantly,” said Crystal Corredera, practice administrator, St. Luke’s Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
All proceeds go to St. Luke’s Cancer Compassion Fund, established to provide charitable support for programs and services that help St. Luke’s patients throughout their cancer journeys. “Money from the fund may be used to help any patients in need with such things as medication, medical supplies, transportation, groceries or other necessities -- a wig or new clothes -- as they go through the process of healing,” Corredera said.
Juan Carlos Martinez, MD, said the event helps cancer patients and their families celebrate life and look forward to the future “because there is a way back to normalcy after treatment.” It also provides patients and families “with ease of mind knowing there’s financial support available, if necessary, as they go through their cancer journey.”
