Enhancing healthcare through personalized approaches

Precision medicine research focuses on tailoring medical treatments to the unique characteristics of each patient. This approach aims to improve outcomes, enhance preventive care, and reduce healthcare costs by avoiding ineffective or unnecessary interventions. As the field of precision medicine advances, continued research, particularly in genomics, is essential to realizing its full potential and improving individual health.

DNA Answers: A Precision Medicine research program at St. Luke’s

DNA Answers is a community health research program offered by St. Luke’s University Health Network and co-sponsored by its partners at Helix, a population genomics company. The research program helps individuals gain a better understanding of their genetic health risks. Participants learn about their inherited risk for certain cancers and a known cause of heart disease. Participation is at no-cost and insurance is not required.

Discover the power of Precision Medicine research

Precision medicine uses genomic variants, environmental factors, and lifestyle information to guide clinical decisions. This innovative approach, sometimes referred to as “personalized medicine,” brings several significant benefits to healthcare, transforming the way diseases are understood, diagnosed, and treated.” - US National Human Genome Research Institute. Participating in precision medicine research does not always involve taking a medication or trialing a medical device; it can be as simple as providing a blood or saliva sample. This is an emerging way of treating patients that offers many benefits to the patient and to healthcare overall, including:

  • Personalized Treatment
  • Improved Disease Prevention
  • Enhanced Drug Development
  • Cost-Effective Healthcare
  • Empowered Patients
  • Advancement of Scientific Knowledge
  • Reduction in Trial and Error
  • Increased Collaboration
