St. Luke's Cancer Care Associates Surgical Oncology - Bethlehem
St. Luke's Cancer Care Associates Surgical Oncology - Allentown
My first passion, as a thoracic surgeon and associate professor of surgery at St. Luke’s University Health Network, is caring for patients and getting them through challenging medical issues. In addition to my clinical practice, I train our general surgery residents. I developed our robotic surgery resident curriculum, designed to teach future robotic surgeons.
I earned my medical degree at Thomas Jefferson Medical College and completed an internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. I trained in general surgery at Lankenau Hospital and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital.
I specialize in robotic lung resections, foregut procedures and mediastinal masses, which develop in the mediastinum – the central area of the chest between the lungs. In addition to my thoracic surgical fellowship, I was fortunate to be accepted into the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Robotic Surgical Fellowship, where I trained with national leaders in robotic thoracic surgery. Additionally, I am interested in the surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), commonly referred to as heartburn. I was pleased to bring the robotic LINX procedure, a surgical technique that helps prevent heartburn, to St. Luke’s and our patients.
More recently, I began St. Luke’s Robotic Navigational Bronchoscopy practice with interventional pulmonologist Deborah Stahlnecker, DO. Through this endeavor, we utilize technology to identify, biopsy and resect lung nodules at smaller sizes with great accuracy.
I enjoy the outdoors and being active. As a Colorado native, I am an avid skier. In my younger days, I was a certified professional ski instructor at Vail. During the warmer months, I enjoy running and hiking on local trails. Most importantly, I enjoy spending my free time with my wonderful wife and our children.

“Dr Manchester is a very caring doctor. He listens. He answers all my questions. He always shows me my ct scan and explains what he sees and what that means. He encourages as the visit goes. When my visit is done then I ask him how he is doing and hows the family. Then we are showing family pictures and my new great granddaughter, just like family!!!!! Doctors need to be encouraged too. My late husband was great at that. We all need each other .”
