One of my favorite parts of being a board-certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon is developing relationships with new people and helping them maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. My goal is to spend time listening to each patient’s specific concerns and goals while developing a personalized treatment plan. I treat a wide variety of injuries to the upper and lower extremities, with a particular interest and expertise in knee and shoulder conditions. I always consider and discuss nonoperative treatment options with patients. When surgery is the best next step for a patient, the most common procedures I perform include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or other ligament reconstructions, patella (knee) stabilizing procedures, meniscus and cartilage preserving procedures, including osteotomies, rotator cuff or other tendon repairs, glenoid labrum (shoulder repairs), and shoulder replacements.
The meniscus is a cushion of cartilage in the knee that helps keep the joint stable and protects the bones, while the glenoid labrum is a ring of cartilage around the shoulder socket that helps hold the arm bone in place. When the labrum tears, surgery can reattach it to restore shoulder stability. An osteotomy is a procedure in which a bone is carefully cut and reshaped to improve its length, alignment, or overall function.
I completed a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado, where I treated extreme sports athletes, endurance athletes and laborers of all ages. I worked as an assistant team physician for the University of Colorado Buffaloes football and basketball teams, as well as the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rapids professional sports teams. Prior to my fellowship, I completed my orthopedic surgery residency at Temple University Hospital, medical school at Drexel University, and undergraduate studies at Randolph-Macon College, where I played football.
Today, I am proud to work as a team physician for several local high schools and universities. In my personal life, I grew up in Montgomery County, PA, and currently live in Allentown. Outside of medicine, I enjoy cycling, mountaineering, snowboarding and traveling with my wife, two children and dog.
