Carpal Tunnel Syndrome | Fractures | Hand Deformities | Nerve InjuryMy approach to patient care is holistic and patient centered. I believe in empowering patients through education, personalized treatment plans and compassionate support. My primary goal is to ensure the full recovery of my patients, starting with careful listening to understand each individual’s unique situation and employing the most current treatment strategies.
I am an orthopedic hand surgeon specializing in treating the hand, wrist and elbow. With a particular focus on fracture surgery, nerve injuries, compressive neuropathies and osteoarthritis, I bring advanced expertise and innovative techniques to my practice. I am proficient in “wide awake hand surgery” and minimally invasive procedures, including endoscopic carpal tunnel release.
I received my education from the top training programs in the country. I earned my medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed my orthopedic residency at the esteemed New York University (NYU) Langone Orthopedic Hospital. Further honing my skills, I pursued a Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery fellowship at The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
My commitment to advancing medical knowledge is evident through my extensive research experience. I was a Howard Hughes Medical Research Scholar at the National Institutes of Health and participated in the Clinician-Scientist Training Program at NYU Orthopedic Surgery and Cell Biology Departments. I have authored over 40 scientific papers and textbook chapters, receiving numerous accolades such as the NYU Chief Resident Research Award, the NYU Basic Science Research Award and first place at the 2020 OREF Research Symposium.
Outside of practicing medicine, I am dedicated to maintaining an active lifestyle and engaging with my community. I enjoy spending time with my family and outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling and I am committed to promoting orthopedic health and wellness.

“Dr Kirby is one of the best doctors I have ever seen, with regards to patient concern, care & empathy. Note that I have seen dozens of doctors in my lifetime, including Specialists. I switched surgeons because the last two prior to Kirby were NOT listening, the 1st was scheduled to do surgery on area that was NOT the problem; 2nd injected an area that I didn't want injected but he bulldozed over my objections, concerns & where hand was actually hurting. Dr Kirby spent the time and actually LISTENED to me to truly find the root of the problem. I know my body, I'm not an idiot and I was fairly certain that the previous surgeons were not paying attention to what I was saying. I was right. After Dr Kirby's wrist fusion surgery, I now have less pain and am regaining use of my right (dominant) hand.”
