St. Luke's Orthopedic Care - Allentown
St. Luke's Orthopedic Care - Bethlehem
It is my intention to provide each of my patients with the highest quality, evidence-based care available. When formulating your treatment plan, I believe that it is important to involve you, the patient, as much as possible. The first step is to understand who you are as an individual and to identify your specific priorities and goals. Then I focus on helping you to learn about your injury or ailment as well as the most reasonable treatment options. This approach allows us to work together to develop a personalized plan of care and to attain the best possible outcome.
I am board certified in orthopaedic surgery with additional certification in orthopaedic sports medicine. I completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Duke University, where I was an assistant team physician for the basketball, football, and soccer teams. At St. Luke’s I have continued to focus my practice on caring for athletes of all ages and abilities, and I am currently the team physician for several area high schools. In addition to athletic injuries, I specialize in the treatment of all shoulder and knee disorders, including rotator cuff tears, labral tears, shoulder instability, ACL tears and other knee ligament injuries, meniscus tears, patellar instability, articular cartilage injuries, and arthritis. I perform arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle as well as total joint replacement of the shoulder, knee, and hip. I also dedicate part of my practice to treating fractures. I am a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
I was born and raised in Hazleton, PA, and I currently live in Allentown, PA. Outside of work, I enjoy running, coaching soccer, reading, travelling, and spending time with my wife and four children.

“I will Never give bad comments for Dr Heckman or his staff. Dr Heckman is the BEST and most Professional Doctor I have ever met. He is so caring, understanding, and an amazing bed side manner of any Doctor I know. He cares for his patients and makes sure we're are doing well. His PA (Name) Is so knowledgeable and answers all my questions and he call back when you need answers. Dr Heckman is the best surgeon and always explains what he is going to do. “I was in to see Dr. Heckman on April 17th when my right hip locked up at work. One of my co workers to whom I solemnly trust helped me to the breakroom where I could sit and asses my situation. Upon me sitting in the breakroom, my co worker went to get my main boss as to when he told me to go home. While, I was in the breakroom, I called Dr. Heckman to send him a message and the receptionist told me that there was a 12 noon appt or a 3pm appt. I immediately took the 12 noon appt. I called home for one of my parents to come get me and take me to the appt. When I got to drs office, I was almost immediately rushed into the exam room. I knew that I would have a little bit of time waiting for the dr to come into the exam room, since I was put in as an emergency appt. Once, the dr came in he ordered x-rays just to make sure nothing was fractured. Thank God nothing was. I have always loved Dr. Heckman's demeanor. He seems to put my mind as piece. Thank you again Dr. Heckman!!!!!!!!”

The Patient Satisfaction Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions from our
