I value the opportunity to get to know patients and offer solutions for their health needs in a comprehensive and compassionate manner.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, where I majored in biomedical engineering. I went on to Duke University Medical Center and worked in biomedical engineering research for 3 years before deciding to become a physician.I earned my medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I found my passion for Gynecology and Obstetrics.
In 2020, I completed my gynecology and obstetrics residency training at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where I received high quality training in high risk obstetrics and hands on training in a variety of surgical techniques including Da Vinci assisted hysterectomy. During my residency, I received awards for excellence in academics, research, female pelvic medicine and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
My clinical interests range broadly from contraception and family planning, fertility, obstetrics, breastfeeding medicine, postpartum mood disorders, endometriosis, PCOS, uterine fibroids, chronic pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, LGBTQ health, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and menopausal medicine.
I have surgical training and expertise in hysteroscopy, surgical miscarriage management, endometrial ablation, laparoscopy for ovarian cysts or ectopic pregnancy, laparoscopic tubal ligation, mid-urethral sling for stress urinary incontinence, minimally invasive hysterectomy including both conventional laparoscopy and robotic (DaVinci-assisted) and cesarean delivery.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, going on walks with the dog, camping and backpacking and cooking meals for others.

“Dr. Rachel is awesome. I started coming to this practice when I was in my 20s When it was run by different Physicians. I am now 66 years old and still a patient I have seen many changes over these decades from being all male doctors to all female doctors The quality has been maintained scrupulously since I began as a patient at another office location. Over the years, I've changed family physicians multiple times, dentists, and other healthcare providers and specialists This office is still number one and still the same place I trust to give me the best care. Dr. Rachel continues that tradition. The support staff is also excellent and show real care and concern. “This was my first visit with Dr, Rachael O'Connell, and it was by far one of the best visits I've had with a physician. She was thorough. She understood my whole medical history. I have a somewhat complicated medical issue and she was well aware of how my other medical problems could interact with what was happening. She was compassionate. She found a solution to my issue. I came home and told my husband I never had such a fantastic GYN appointment. I felt as though I was heard as a patient, she did not rush me. She went over everything very thoroughly. I have told all my friends if they needed a GYN doctor they will not be disappointed. I will be seeing her in April for my regular GYN appointment and I look forward to many years of care with her. She is an asset to the medical community I can honestly say I felt like I was having an appointment from the way medicine was years ago. I highly recommend her thorough thinking through the best recommendation for me. I couldn't find one thing to complain about!! I hope you share these with these doctors because when you find a doctor that is that kind and that bright, they deserve to know that their patients appreciate them very much!”
