Infant care
The Children’s Center provides care to infants starting at 6 weeks old.
In the infant room (6 weeks to approximately 10 months), children learn by crawling, playing and exploring a new environment filled with age-appropriate toys, swings and exersaucers. Schedules are customized for each child based upon individual needs. When they are ready to move to the Infant Transition Room, children are displaying new emotions and increased curiosity and are playing games like peek-a-boo.
In the infant transition room (approximately 10 – 16 months), children continue to master gross and fin e motor skills by grasping, pushing and rolling new toys. At snack and lunch time, children learn to hold cups as they transition off bottles. Our curriculum includes, body parts, animal sounds and basic sign language.
Toddler care
The Grand View Hospital Children’s Center offers three toddler rooms each with a distinct curriculum. Developmental progress is considered when assigning placement.
In the young toddler room (approximately 16 months – 2 years), children develop their social and cognition skills by playing with shape sorters, books, Legos and blocks. By participating in daily circle time, children learn about weather, seasons, colors and animals. Our curriculum includes music, story time and art projects that reinforce our weekly learning theme.
In the older toddler room (2 – 3 years), children enjoy stimulating, sensory-focused activities. Each day, children participate in circle time and a variety of small group activities such as art, cooking and tactile learning. Our curriculum includes developmentally-appropriate potty-training.
In the middler room (3 – 4 years), children’s development socially, physically, emotionally, and cognitively is fostered through group and individual activities. Children learn about team work and how to verbally solve problems. Movement is encouraged through dancing, outside play and nature walks. Circle time includes a daily lesson, the calendar and current weather. Our curriculum incorporates iPads to reinforce our weekly learning theme.
Nursery school and pre-K
Give your child a head start with our nursery school and pre-K programs!
In our nursery school program, there are numerous milestones we strive to help each child reach before moving on to Pre-K. Our curriculum is built around letter, number and name recognition. Children learn songs that help them remember the days of the week, months in the year and phonetic concepts. Children enjoy music and movement by playing and learning with instruments, dancing to music and using balance beams for gross motor coordination. Fine motor skills are worked on daily by writing, playing with play dough, lacing and building with legos. Children work on self-help skills such as zipping, buttoning and fully gaining confidence using the toilet. Art projects and science experiments are done weekly.
In our pre-K program, we help foster a lifelong love of learning and prepare children for Kindergarten. Children learn to write letters, numbers 1 – 20 and their first and last name. The curriculum includes Language Arts, Math and Science, Art and Gym, Music and Social Studies.
