St. Luke’s Miners Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has earned an overall five-star rating, the highest possible, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), recognizing the facility’s commitment to delivering high-quality skilled nursing and rehabilitation care.
Located at St. Luke’s Hospital Miners Campus in Coaldale, the 48-bed, hospital-based skilled nursing facility provides individualized short-term rehabilitation and long-term care in a welcoming, home-like environment.
“This five-star rating reflects the dedication of our entire team and their commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate care to our residents every day,” said St. Luke's Miners Campus President Diana Laquinta. "We recognize our patients' increased needs and take great pride in caring for them at the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center "
CMS uses a five-star system to help consumers compare nursing homes. Ratings incorporate three primary areas: health inspections, staffing and quality measures. St. Luke’s Miners Rehabilitation and Nursing Center received five stars overall. CMS rated 6,532 skilled nursing facilities in Pennsylvania based on health inspection, quality measures for long-stay and short. Only 151 facilities achieved 5-star ratings.
This achievement reflects sustained performance. CMS-derived data show the center has held its five-star overall rating for eight consecutive quarters, from the third quarter of 2024 through the second quarter of 2026.
Staffing is a key to the quality of care at St. Luke's only skilled nursing facility. According to the CMS, the facility reports approximately 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, including about 1.3 hours of registered nurse care. Its annual nursing staff turnover rate also is better than Pennsylvania and national averages reported through CMS data.
The center’s high rating reinforces St. Luke’s commitment to providing patients and families with high-quality care close to home. As a hospital-based skilled nursing facility, St. Luke’s Miners Rehabilitation and Nursing Center provides patients who have experienced an illness or injury with access to skilled nursing and rehabilitation services while helping them transition to the next stage of recovery.
The center also emphasizes the importance of family involvement and encourages loved ones to remain active participants in residents’ lives. Amenities and programs include therapeutic activities, restaurant-style dining, a beauty and barber salon, spiritual services and community outings, all designed to support residents’ physical, emotional and social well-being.
CMS developed its Five-Star Quality Rating System to give residents and families an uncomplicated way to evaluate nursing homes. A five-star rating indicates that a nursing home’s overall performance is among the top performers among skilled nursing facilities.
