Star Community Health Sigal Center to Host Grand Re-Opening
May 16, 2022

A grand re-opening celebration of Star Community Health Sigal Center will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. An essential facility for providing key health care services to the local community, Star Community Health Sigal Center is located at 450 West Chew Street in Allentown.

“Sigal Center is vital to the community as we have been present in the ward for several years, providing high-quality health care to our residents,” says Laura Hertrick, Senior Operations Director of Star Community Health, an affiliate of St. Luke’s University Health Network. “Anyone can utilize the services of Sigal Center. We do not turn any patient away, regardless of their ability to pay. Our goal is to have high-quality healthcare be attainable for any individual.”

The grand reopening celebration is open to all and will feature an ice cream truck, food, music, giveaways, raffles, kids’ activities, face painting and much more. “It will have a patriotic theme in honor of Armed Forces Day,” Hetrick says. “Kids can write letters or color a picture for a service member who is deployed. We are going to have Army Sergeants at the event handing out popcorn to the kids.”

Attendees will be able to tour the updated Star Community Health Sigal Center. In addition, they will get to know more about neighborhood community partners and resources, such as Penn State, Allentown Health Bureau, City of Allentown-Community Housing, Treatment Trends, Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers, Armed Forces and the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Allentown Mayor Matthew Tuerk will also be on hand to mark the occasion, along with several legislators and representatives.

Star Community Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike, which is a community-based health care provider that meets the requirements of the HRSA Health Center Program but does not receive Health Center Program funding.

The grand reopening ceremony marks the completion of significant construction outside and inside of the Sigal Center.

“The work on the outside of the building improves access to care for our patients, while the interior work updates the setting with state-of-the-art equipment for all service lines,” Hetrick says. “The reopening ceremony will alert the public to what our Health Center at Sigal has to offer.”

The Sigal Center houses Star Community Health’s family medicine, same-day care, pediatrics, women’s health and dental services. Star Community Health Sigal Center provides care in a variety of areas, such as:

  • Routine physical exams;
  • Wellness visits for infants through adults, including children’s immunizations;
  • Blood tests and lab studies;
  • Women’s health care, including Pap smears;
  • Care and management of diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure; and more.

“All or our patients are also offered ‘wrap-around services,’ which includes social work, RN case managers, financial counselors and referral specialists,” Hetrick adds.
