Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital Invites Community to Pre-Opening Celebration
October 28, 2019

ORWIGSBURG, Pa. – The public and news media are welcome to get a look inside Schuylkill County’s newest hospital during the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital Pre-Opening Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Join members of the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital team for an afternoon of fun on the new hospital campus at 100 Paramount Blvd. in Orwigsburg. Featuring live entertainment, prizes, hospital tours, health and wellness activities and a visit from the Geisinger Life Flight team, the community can see inside the hospital and meet with those who will be caring for them when the new hospital opens.

“A lot of hard work has gone into the hospital construction and planning, and we’re excited to let the community see what we’ve been doing here,” said Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital President Gabriel Kamarousky. “Our mission is to care for the sick and injured and improve our community’s health, regardless of the ability to pay, and we want to show off exactly how we’re going to do that by giving our neighbors a chance to see inside the hospital before it opens.”

More than 200 construction jobs were created through the construction of the 3-story, 130,000 square foot hospital. Currently, over 200 staff have been hired for the hospital. Employee training and orientation will continue into November to allow them to learn the brand-new equipment and the ins-and-outs of the building. An official hospital opening date hasn’t yet been set.

Some highlights people will see inside the 80-bed facility include state-of-the-art medical equipment, private patient rooms and a private patient discharge area.

People will be able to see inside the private patient rooms, including 15 private rooms in the emergency department and the private in-patient rooms on the third floor. The hospital also features a private discharge area, making it more convenient to pick-up a loved one when it’s time for them to head home to continue their recovery.

Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital will be the first hospital to open in more than 90 years in Schuylkill County. The hospital will feature inpatient care, surgery, radiology, lab and additional services including an emergency department, medical/surgical suites and an intensive care unit. The facility is the first time in Pennsylvania history that two health care systems, Geisinger and St. Luke’s University Health Network, have agreed to build and equally co-own a new hospital.
