March 14, 2016

Quakertown, PA (3/14/2016)St. Luke’s Quakertown Campus has been awarded a $4,500 grant from the Erwin J. & Gertrude K. Neusch Fund of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation in support of the campus’ Medical Career Pathway (MCP) program.

Unique to the region, the MCP program is designed to expose high school seniors considering medical careers to numerous aspects of the health care profession. Students are onsite at the campus, including St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital, the Heart & Vascular Center and the Bone & Joint Institute twice a week throughout the school year. A combination of lecture and clinical observation exposes students to major service lines and support services from surgery, radiology and lab services to the cafeteria, nursing and pharmacy.

St. Luke’s Quakertown Campus has partnered with Palisades and Quakertown high schools, admitting 25 students to the program in the 2015-2016 school year. This grant will support MCP’s operating expenses including class materials, student ID badges, t-shirts, healthy snacks and more. Upon completion of the program, students are required to provide feedback to their schools via an oral or written presentation.

“Now in its third year, the Medical Career Pathway Program has established itself as a “must have” for students from these two schools who are considering further education and careers in the medical field. As St. Luke’s Quakertown Campus continues to provide access to the highest quality health care in the region, these students benefit from directly interfacing with our innovative physicians and staff, state-of-the-art technology and compassionate caregivers,” says Kathy Ramson, DNP, RN, Vice President Patient Services, St. Luke’s Quakertown Campus.
