My Proud Story...

In March of 1992, when I was 7 months pregnant with my first child, my husband and I were in a serious car accident. I was critically injured and they told my family that my baby probably would not make it due to my internal injuries, including a ruptured spleen, two collapsed lungs, a broken femur, broken ribs and pancreas damage. The next day, after my surgeries, the placenta started to rupture and i was rushed back to the OR for an emergency c-section. My son, Patrick was born weighing barely 3 pounds and was rushed to St. Luke's NICU. I wouldn't see him for two weeks because I was at a different hospital location.

The minute I was discharged I went directly to the NICU at Bethlehem. I was truly inspired by the nurses who cared for him during his stay there. Not only was I blessed because I was alive but my son had also made it through a traumatic ordeal, thanks, in no small part to the angels who cared for my son in the NICU. Once we were both home and recovering, I knew that I wanted to make a difference for others during their biggest time of need. Shortly after my son’s 1st birthday, I started my pre-reqs toward becoming an RN and shortly after, started at the St. Luke's SON evening weekend program. It was a long journey, but so worthwhile. During my time as a staff RN in the hospital, I always remembered how wonderful the nurses were who cared for me and I always tried my best to provide the same exceptional care to my patients. Although I no longer provide direct patient care, I strive to do my best each day to hire the best RNs for our hospital so they can continue to provide exceptional patient care.
