St. Luke’s Sports Medicine provides a higher level of care for a higher level of performance.

The sports fellows are actively involved in patient care within both sports medicine and primary care settings. They are involved in teaching sports medicine to residents, medical students and the general public.

The fellows are responsible for several didactic presentations as part of the sports medicine curriculum. Diverse research opportunities are available, and presentation and/or publication of a research endeavor will be an expectation of the fellowship. The fellowship education is provided by Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and other St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem Campus faculty and staff, sports physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and sports fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, all with a unique sports medicine interest and commitment to education.

St. Luke’s is a 480-bed community-based institution with a Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center, Cancer Center and Heart & Vascular Center. Education is a major objective of the hospital, and besides the Sports Medicine Primary Care Fellowship, the hospital supports residency programs in:

Partnership with St. Luke’s Orthopedic Services

The fellowship is partnered with St. Luke’s Orthopedic Services, as well as several busy referral-based orthopedic sports medicine practices that will provide the fellow with a broad exposure to common and uncommon musculoskeletal conditions. Rotations through all aspects of sports medicine will be available, including such areas as orthopedic hand and spine surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, rheumatology, physical therapy, as well as other subspecialty rotations, which may be individually contoured for a unique educational experience. Exposure to acupuncture, phototherapy, ultrasound and osteopathic manipulation techniques are available to both osteopathic and allopathic physicians, if interested.
