Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Training at St. Luke’s University Hospital – Allentown Campus

    St. Luke’s Hospital - Allentown Campus is a state of the art facility. This includes a newly renovated Emergency Department, an ICU, eight operating room suites with a minimally invasive flare, and a hybrid OR. Currently under construction and set to open in early 2024, is our new Mother Baby Tower at our St. Luke's Allentown Campus. The expansion will include a 16-bed Level IIIA NICU, a 3-bay obstetric triage unit, 2 operating rooms, 11 labor and delivery rooms, and 23 postpartum beds.     

    Sigal Center
    The residents see patients at the Star Community Health Center, an FQHC look-alike which is affiliated with St Luke’s. The clinic is located close to the Allentown hospital and provides full scale obstetric and gynecologic services. They are supported by nurse practitioners as well as a social worker and a financial counselor. Our urogynecology and minimally-invasive specialty clinics are run from this location. The clinic provides group conferencing space and private areas for mentors to review cases with the residents.

    Operating Rooms
    Operating suites and support areas include a state-of-the-art laparoscopic suite, teleconferencing teaching potential, and a hybrid OR. Constructed specifically with gynecologic procedures in mind, the operating rooms benefited from entirely new laparoscopic and urogyencologic/pelvic reconstruction surgical equipment. The general operating rooms occupy space immediately adjacent to Labor and Delivery and can be used as a back-up for additional obstetric surgery in addition to the Labor and Delivery obstetric operating room itself.

    Allentown Campus

    On-call space
    Adequate on-call space is provided for the Residents and the 24-hour in-house call attending physicians. On call rooms are conveniently located on the labor and delivery floor.

    Learning Resource Center and Library
    An up-to- date resource center and library is provided to residents on a 24-hour basis. Online resources are always available from on campus or from home via secure connection.

  • Training at St. Luke’s University Hospital – Anderson Campus

    Labor and Delivery Unit
    The Richard A. Anderson Campus is home to the Women and Babies Pavilion which opened in January of 2020. The labor and delivery unit features 9 labor and delivery rooms, 5 triage rooms, two operating rooms and a three-bed PACU. The perinatologists can use this unit for advanced invasive perinatal procedures when the need arises. Resident call rooms are conveniently located in a private hallway just outside the resident work room. Our antepartum and postpartum unit is located on the floor above and features large private rooms designed with patient comfort in mind.

    The Perinatal Center
    Our perinatologists see a large volume of high-risk patients in conjunction with certified genetic counselors The center offers genetic and antepartum counseling, surveillance and testing.

    The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
    Our level III NICU is located on the same floor as labor and delivery. It is staffed by neonatologists and neonatal advanced providers who are in house 24 hours a day.

    Operating Rooms
    The Anderson Campus features five operating rooms, including a robotic room, located in the main hospital building adjacent to the Women and Babies Pavilion. Both our generalists and sub specialists operate at this campus. The Specialty Pavilion is just across the street and features the Ambulatory Surgery Center with additional ORs for gynecologic surgery.

    Graduate Medical Education Space
    Located on the lower level of the Women and Babies Pavilion is a large space dedicated entirely to graduate medical education. It features an auditorium, conference rooms and additional study space. When residents need nourishment or to relax, The Commons provides fresh food and comfortable seating. This space is available to residents 24 hours a day.

    Anderson Simulation Center
    The Anderson Campus offers a clinical simulation center which is utilized by the residency program for a number of educational opportunities. Part of the residents' education includes simulations in neonatal resuscitation, vaginal breech delivery, shoulder dystocia and operative vaginal delivery. A “real mom” simulator optimizes this obstetric hands on training. There are also standardized patient rooms equipped with cameras and microphones to allow residents to practice their skills in dealing with difficult patient encounters complete with feedback from the standardized patients as well as the program faculty.

  • Training St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem Campus

    Women’s Health Center
    The Star Community Health Center is located less than 5 minutes from the Bethlehem main campus hospital. Providing services to our community with more than 8,000 visits yearly, the Women’s Health Center is a resident-run, attending-supervised office dedicated to the training of physicians. Training in ultrasound and colposcopy is provided in the clinic. The clinic employs a full support staff as well as one full-time dedicated nurse practitioner who is responsible for keeping our patient volumes up without overloading our residents. She works in consultation with the residents in a model common to many obstetric and gynecologic practices. A social worker and a financial counselor are available in the clinic.

    Bethlehem Campus

    Bethlehem Simulation Center
    The Bethlehem simulation center has a robotic simulator to allow residents to learn important skills in robotics that can later be applied in the operating room during their gynecology and gynecologic oncology rotations. There is a designated EMIG sim lab with equipment identical to what residents will be tested on. There is 24/7 badge access to this facility for residents to practice their EMIG skills.
