Interval Cardiology Fellowship

The majority of diagnostic and interventional cases, including primary PCI for ST elevation MI, are performed via radial access. The case mix includes a balance of elective outpatient cases scheduled by our 31 full-time staff cardiologists, inpatients with acute illness, and emergencies from one of our six hospitals, as well as from referring institutions.

The fellowship provides the fellow substantial opportunity to acquire technical expertise. Training in coronary interventions includes the use of rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, FFR, IVUS, and OCT. Pericardiocentesis is performed with support from the noninvasive imaging team. Mechanical support for complex coronary cases includes the use of intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation and the Impella support device. In addition, ECMO support if available via consultation with our surgical colleagues. The fellow will participate in all phases of the patent’s care, including careful assessment before the procedure and close follow-up until discharge. The fellow will have an outpatient clinic to permit follow-up of invasive studies.

By the completion of the training, the fellow will be comfortable in the management of patient having a high degree of acuity and complexity. St. Luke’s offers fellows:
