Faculty Practice Experience / Subspecialty Clinics

Neurology

The residents will be exposed to 8 different subspecialties:

Epilepsy Clinic:
Comprehensive evaluation and treatment provided to pediatric and adult patients with complex seizure profiles. Selected patients with more difficult seizure types will be evaluated in epilepsy monitoring unit at St. Luke’s Bethlehem campus.

Headache Clinic:
This clinic specializes in evaluation and care of patients with common as well as difficult to treat headache disorders. The goal of this rotation is to teach residents how to effectively diagnose and treat various headache disorders and learn about the underlying pathophysiology of these cases.

Neuromuscular Clinic:
This clinic specializes in evaluation of the peripheral nervous system with evaluation of cases including but not limited to peripheral neuropathies, ALS, MG, radiculopathies and compressive neuropathies. Residents will be exposed to wide range of muscle, anterior horn cell, nerve and neuromuscular junction disorders. Clinical neurophysiology especially EMG and NCV will augment training in following these complex peripheral cases.

Movement Disorders Clinic:
This clinic will focus on abnormal movement disorders including but not limited to Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, myoclonus, tremors, Tourette’s syndrome, as well as many others. Patients may be involved in clinical trials as well as consideration for DBS surgery and programming.

Cognitive Care Clinic:
This clinic specializes in evaluation and care of patients with dementia. Residents will gain exposure to wide rage of neurobehavioral syndromes and realize the importance of caregivers in patient care and services needed for patients and their families.

Multiple Sclerosis Clinic:
This clinic specializes in the proper diagnosis and treatment of patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromyelitis Optica and other neuroimmune disorders. Residents will gain experience and exposure to wide range of medications available for these disorders with proper monitoring and patient selection.

Neuropsychology:
This clinic specializes in neuropsychology testing for vast neurological disorders including ADD, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body disease, Post concussive disorders, Closed head injuries, among many others. This testing is integral in the initial diagnosis as well as subsequent management of many of these conditions. The resident will learn the utility of this testing in bridging both the neurological and psychological components of many chronic diseases.

Stroke Clinic:
This clinic will focus on ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, TIAs, CNS vasculitis, vascular malformations, and aneurysms and followed by our stroke faculty with the residents. The residents will learn the treatment and management of both the acute and chronic vascular presentations.
