Curriculum

Neurology
  • PGY-1 year is focused on developing a solid knowledge base of internal medicine through exposure to a wide variety of patient encounters. PGY-1 will emphasize individual patient care, clinical skills, diagnosis, treatment and management of routine and complex cases. Residents will complete 13, 4-week blocks made up of:

    • 5 Blocks Inpatient Internal Medicine
    • 2 Blocks Inpatient Neurology
    • 1 Block Internal Medicine Night Float
    • 1 Block Adult ICU
    • 1 Block Inpatient Cardiology
    • 1 Block Outpatient Pediatrics
    • 1 Block Outpatient Family Medicine
    • 1 Block Emergency Medicine
  • The PGY-2 year is focused on exposure of the resident to basic and complex neurological cases, to improve Neurological exam and assessment abilities and to be able to manage patients compassionately, efficiently and effectively. This includes management of acute strokes, seizures, disorders of consciousness, acute neuromuscular disease, infections of nervous system and other disorders requiring inpatient care. The resident will attend required educational activities such as morning report/multidisciplinary conferences, neurology Grand Rounds, M and M conference as well as rotation specific conferences (Epilepsy, Neuromuscular, Neurovascular, Neuroimaging, etc.). Residents will complete 13, 4-week blocks made up of:

    • 6 Blocks Inpatient Neurology
    • 2 Blocks Outpatient Sub-Specialty Neurology
    • 1 Block Neurocritical Care
    • 1 Block Inpatient Neurology Night Float
    • 1 Block EEG
    • 1 Block EMG
    • 1 Block Elective
  • The PGY-3 year is focused on the resident functioning as a consultant, with exposure to Child Neurology as well as Psychiatry. Residents will complete 13, 4-week blocks made up of:

    • 3 Blocks Inpatient Neurology Consults
    • 2 Blocks Child Neurology
    • 2 Blocks Outpatient Sub-Specialty Neurology
    • 2 Blocks Elective
    • 1 Block Neurocritical Care
    • 1 Block Inpatient Neurology Night Float
    • 1 Block Headache/MS
    • 1 Block Inpatient Psychiatry
  • The PGY-4 year is focused on residents functioning as chief residents with clinical, administrative, and teaching responsibilities. Residents will be exposed to Neuro-ophthalmology with a rotation at Wills Eye Hospital. Residents will also complete their Psychiatry rotation requirement and Child Neurology rotation requirement during their PGY-4 year. Residents will complete 13, 4-week blocks made up of:

    • 3 Blocks Inpatient Neurology Chief Resident
    • 3 Blocks Elective
    • 2 Blocks Outpatient Sub-Specialty Neurology
    • 1 Block Inpatient Neurology Night Float
    • 1 Block Neurocritical Care
    • 1 Block Inpatient Psychiatry
    • 1 Block Child Neurology
    • 1 Block Ophthalmology
