1. You'll actually take care of your own patients! At a single residency program in a community hospital, you are given responsibility to take the lead in patient care.

2. You can practice in a rural setting in beautiful Schuylkill and Carbon Counties.  The program is located near the Pocono Mountains and the Appalachian Trail and is surrounded by beautiful scenery.

3. There will truly be time dedicated to your education! We have educational seminars four mornings a week and conferences every Wednesday morning covering a wide variety of topics. In addition, our faculty uses various techniques to teach and to assess your competency.

4. You will work in a community filled with warm people.  Our academic hub has a Victorian downtown and a nationally registered historic district, excellent restaurants, two microbreweries, outdoor recreation, an Arts Center and a local Farmer’s Market.

Our Hospital is intimate and friendly.  St. Luke’s Carbon Campus is the largest acute-care hospital Carbon County has ever seen!  Carbon Campus is a 160,000 square foot hospital with four stories and capacity for 80 private rooms. Onsite there is a 30-bed emergency room, 24/7 critical care onsite with 12 ICU beds, state-of-the-art operating rooms, laboratory services, and the most advanced radiology and diagnostic technology available to the region. This community hospital is filled with caring, compassionate people dedicated to serving the community and educating young physicians.

6. You’ll have lots of nearby outdoor activities.  Hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, whitewater rafting are all available nearby.  Blue Mountain Ski Area, Bear Creek Ski Resort, Montage Mountain and the Poconos are close by.

In addition to the fine faculty of the residency program, St. Luke’s Hospital – Carbon Campus has a medical staff of family physicians and specialty colleagues dedicated to teaching family medicine residents. This staff participates in lectures and rotations, both at our hospital and at outpatient practices. There is a rich interactionbetween residents and attending physicians.

8. Close to Allentown, NYC and Philadelphia! Allentown is 40 minutes; NYC is approximately 2 ½ hours and Philadelphia is less than 2 hours away.

9. You will get actively involved in community service.  Our program has a strong presence in our community providing service in many ways including naloxone training and distribution, community health screenings, educational lectures, sports medicine field coverage and many other activities.

There will be many opportunities for you to pursue scholarly activity, research, and quality improvement projects.  As a result, you can present at local, state, regional and national meetings.  Our program has a strong track record of scholarly pursuit and a strong presence at many educational meetings.
