Psychotherapy Groups

St. Luke’s University Health Network’s Behavioral Health Staff offers various groups to further enhance the care it provides. When you participate in a group, you often see that others have similar challenges and feelings. As a result, they are able to provide you with emotional support, caring, compassion, encouragement and perhaps most importantly, understanding. You learn from the other participants, and in turn, are able to help them. Meanwhile, a licensed counselor guides your group experience and provides expert care to help you reach your personal treatment goals.

To register for meeting dates and times, contact our Intake Department at: 484-822-5700.

Please note that groups are subject to change. Not all groups meet every week. Insurance is accepted. Co-pays vary by plan.

Addiction and Mental Health

This group welcomes people who suffer from both a mental health disorder and have a history of addictive behaviors, such as drug or alcohol dependency, gambling, spending, hoarding or over-eating. We provide you an opportunity to talk openly about the impact your substance use and mental health challenges have on your life. Our goal is to help you in time and with the help of your peers commit to abstinence and use recovery-oriented skills to lessen the severity of your mental health symptoms.

Anger Management

During this six-week anger management group you learn ways to relax, improve your communication and reframe thought processes. We help you adopt healthy coping skills to positively change your thoughts and behaviors.

Anxiety Disorders (Ages 13-18)

This group for teens and pre-teens focuses on peer support and evidenced based practices in the treatment of Anxiety and OCD. As a group member, you will be involved in discussion and activities to learn how to better manage the pain – both physical and emotional – that is caused by these often disabling conditions. The group component of treatment has been proven to be an integral part of therapy for anyone learning how to manage anxiety/pain related behaviors. Understanding that you are not alone, learning from a skilled treatment provider and gaining support from others will help you reach your goals.

Bipolar Adult Wellness

If you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and are 18 or older, this group:

  • Gives you the opportunity to reach out to others and benefit from the experience of those who have "been there"
  • Motivates you to follow a personal wellness plan
  • Helps you to understand that a mood disorder does not define who you are
  • Helps you to rediscover strengths and humor you may have thought you had lost
  • Provides you with a forum for mutual acceptance, understanding and self-discovery

Care Giver Support

This process therapy group helps you understand issues related to caregiver burnout and compassion fatigue. Through the group process, you will learn how to better care for yourself emotionally and physically while managing your care-taking responsibilities. This group is for anyone who cares for sick or elderly parents, ill children, friends or family members who require frequent help. Nurses or other health care workers who nurture others are also welcome.

Depression and Anxiety – Focusing on Mindfulness

People experiencing stress, anxiety and/or depression often feel overwhelmed and unable to navigate important areas of their lives in a healthy way. Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment—and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element in happiness. In this forum, you learn how to use mindfulness to decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression as you benefit from the group experience.

Eating Disorders (Adult Group – Age 18 and older)

The road to eating disorder recovery starts with admitting you have a problem. This admission can be tough, especially if you’re still clinging to the belief—even in the back of your mind—that weight loss is the key to happiness, confidence and success. Even when you finally understand this isn’t true, old habits are still hard to break.

The good news is that the eating disorder behaviors you’ve learned can be unlearned if you’re motivated to change and willing to ask for help. However, overcoming an eating disorder is about more than giving up unhealthy eating behaviors. It is also about rediscovering who you are beyond your eating habits, weight and body image. If you are looking for recovery, this group will help you to reach your personal treatment goals.

Eating Disorders (Ages 13-18)

For teens and pre-teens, this group focuses on peer support and evidenced-based practices in the treatment of anorexia and bulimia. Building on individual therapy, medical supervision and nutrition counseling, this group is an integral part of your therapy as you learn to manage your eating disordered behaviors. We help you to reach your goals by learning from a skilled treatment provider, getting to know others who face similar challenges and benefiting from their support.
