About the Department
The Pediatrics Department consists of inpatient, primary care and specialty care providers across a variety of practice locations. The inpatient pediatrics unit is an 18-bed unit located at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. Dedicated pediatric hospitalists provide care 24/7 to patients admitted from any of the Network’s 10 hospital campuses. The inpatient unit has seen significant volume growth over the past several years.
Due to the increased volumes and demand for additional services the department is excited to announce the addition of an 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit located at St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem opening in early 2020! The new PICU will allow families to receive more acute care for their children close to home within the St. Luke’s Network.
The team also consists of pediatric primary care physicians located in eight practices across 11 locations as well as three pediatric clinic locations. Our pediatric specialists currently span eleven subspecialties (cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology, developmental pediatrics, radiology, psychiatry, plastic surgery and anesthesiology),and we are aggressively looking to expand into new services.
In addition to patient care, the department also:
- Serves as faculty at the Temple/St. Luke’s School of Medicine
- Supports and trains family practice residents from the Temple/St. Luke’s School of Medicine
- Serves as medical director of local school districts
- Participates in quality projects sponsored through the American Academy of Pediatrics
