Family Medicine Residency - Miners
The St. Luke’s Rural Family Medicine Residency Program is the first residency program in Pennsylvania to enlist in the National Rural Training Collaborative. Located in beautiful Schuylkill & Carbon counties, we are seeking innovators and trendsetters who desire to practice in rural, underserved settings.
Our program promotes leadership in rural health by integrating a strong curriculum with resident involvement in community health. We utilize the vast resources of our large St. Luke’s University Health Network to educate our residents, while offering the intimacy of utilizing rural facilities (both hospital and ambulatory) for the majority of our residents’ clinical experiences. The St. Luke’s Miners Hospital in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, is where the majority of our inpatient training occurs. Miners Campus has been rated as a 5-Star hospital by Medicare, the highest rating possible to achieve.
With the assistance of our HRSA-PCTE (Primary Care Training Enhancement) Grant, we have been able to expand tele-health services and education, substance use disorder training and care, and mental health advocacy and care. Our ambulatory sites have licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) to counsel patients, and we have a behavioral health specialist, Dr. James Feldman, Ph.D., to educate our physicians.
The residency has a vigorous didactic program with lectures on four weekday mornings via Microsoft TEAMS from faculty, specialists and residents. In addition, we have live Wednesday morning academic half-days that incorporate education in cardiology, radiology, wellness, rural and wilderness medicine, pediatrics, surgery, substance use disorder and mental health disorders. We dedicate one morning each month for hands-on procedural workshops as well.
We welcome you to learn more about our program. We are excited about our curriculum and our opportunity to serve our patients, and we are recruiting energetic young physicians who share our visions and mission.
