Monitor and aid in the passage of stones
Prevent or reduce recurrence

Surgical procedures

Ureteroscopy, which uses a small telescope (less than a quarter of an inch) inserted through the urethra to find and break up stones within the urinary tract
Lithotripsy, which directs sound waves to stones within the kidney to break them up
Percutaneous surgery, which involves an incision in the back (usually no bigger than an inch) to enter the kidney and remove stones
