Advanced Treatment for Kidney Stones

St. Luke’s Center for Urology offers advanced medical and surgical services to diagnose and treat kidney stones in the most minimally invasive way possible. When needed, state-of the-art technology at all of our campuses enables urologists to perform highly precise surgical procedures.

  • Non-surgical medical management to:
    • Monitor and aid in the passage of stones
    • Prevent or reduce recurrence
    • Manage pain and other symptoms
  • Surgical procedures
    • Ureteroscopy, which uses a small telescope (less than a quarter of an inch) inserted through the urethra to find and break up stones within the urinary tract
    • Lithotripsy, which directs sound waves to stones within the kidney to break them up
    • Percutaneous surgery, which involves an incision in the back (usually no bigger than an inch) to enter the kidney and remove stones
