Hepatitis C

Approximately 85 percent of the people infected with the hepatitis C virus develop chronic active hepatitis C. This can occasionally lead to scarring of the liver, and rarely, it can even lead to liver failure or liver cancer. For years, hepatitis C was very difficult to treat – requiring months of injections with severe side effects and poor cure rates. However, recently a number of very effective and well-tolerated oral treatments have become available.

At St. Luke’s Digestive Diseases and Liver Center, all of our gastroenterologists are experienced in the management of hepatitis C. In addition, we have specialized nurses that work closely with our patients throughout their treatment.
