St. Luke’s Miners Campus Debuts 3D Mammography, Sensory Suite

Coaldale, PA (6/15/2016) – Women may notice less stress and anxiety at their next mammogram thanks to the low-dose SenoClaire®3D mammography technology and SensorySuite® from GE Healthcare.
Both recently were installed at the St. Luke’s Miners Campus’s Women’s Imaging Center in Coaldale.
St. Luke’s is first in the region to offer 3D mammography. The technology uses a low-dose, short X-ray sweep around the compressed breast, and the accompanying imaging technique is designed to separate the layers of breast tissue to create clearer images.
“We’re thrilled to be first in the region to provide these exceptional technologies together,” says
Joseph Russo, MD, Section Chief of Women’s Imaging for St. Luke’s University Health Network. “It’s a true benefit for women with dense breast tissue who have an elevated risk of developing breast cancer. While the imaging quality of the 3D mammography is exceptional, also impressive is the ability to offer it at the same low dose as a 2D mammogram.”
Additionally, the SensorySuite portion of the experience offers soothing elements that promote relaxation during a mammogram.
The SensorySuite helps alleviate stress and anxiety during the exam by offering women to be screened seaside, by a garden, or by a waterfall, replete with the complementary soothing sounds and pleasing scents. “It truly provides a remarkable experience and creates an aura of calm and well-being,” says Dr. James Bohri, diagnostic radiologist at St. Luke’s Miners Campus. “Our hope is that more women take advantage of the technologies, with the hope of finding breast cancers earlier when the chance of successful treatment and cure are highest.”
St. Luke’s also recently installed Breast MRI at St. Luke’s Miners Campus. Breast MRI may be used with mammography to detect breast cancer its earliest stages for women who are at risk for developing the disease.
St. Luke’s is able to offer these technologies at St. Luke’s Miners Campus and throughout its network thanks to a nearly three-decade relationship with GE Healthcare. This is the third St. Luke’s site to offer the SenoClaire 3D mammography system with the Sensory Suite. Other locations include St. Luke’s West End Medical Center in Allentown and St. Luke’s Upper Perkiomen Outpatient Center in Pennsburg. Remarkably, only a handful of locations nationwide provide these technologies together.
St. Luke’s University Health Network has 14 Women’s Imaging Centers throughout its service area in Pennsylvania, and in Warren County, New Jersey, including St. Luke’s Regional Breast Center in Center Valley for higher-level breast imaging.
