Dr. Manchester specializes in robotic surgery of the lung, chest and digestive system. During his fellowship training in thoracic surgery, he completed an advanced robotic surgical fellowship learning from national leaders in this specialty. Dr. Manchester has a particular interest in anti-reflux surgery and introduced the new robotic LINX procedure to St. Luke’s for the surgical management of heartburn. In addition to larger robotic procedures, Dr. Manchester routinely performs minimally invasive chest operations and numerous bronchoscopic and endoscopic procedures.
Dr. Manchester enjoys working closely clinically with his patients to help them overcome their disease. Whether battling to beat lung cancer or preventing severe reflux, he works with his patients to create an individualized treatment plan and cure illness in a minimally invasive fashion.
After earning his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Manchester completed his internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then did a general surgery residency at Lankenau Hospital and finished his training with a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital. At St. Luke’s Dr. Manchester also serves as an assistant professor of surgery, training general surgery residents. Passionate about teaching, he recently developed the robotic surgery resident training curriculum for teaching future robotic surgeons.
When not in the hospital Dr. Manchester enjoys being outdoors. The Colorado native is an avid skier and was a certified professional ski instructor at Vail in his younger days. During the warmer months, he can be found running and hiking on local trails. “But most importantly,” he says, “I enjoy spending my free time with my wonderful wife Rachel and raising our energetic young daughter Elliott.”
