Tail on the Trail 

Bethlehem, PA (7/3/14) -- Join St. Luke’s Allentown and Bethlehem Campuses and the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L) on Saturday, July 19 to participate in a Get Your Tail on the Trail event!

Date: Saturday, July 19th at 9 am
Location: Sand Island, 56 River Street, Bethlehem

There’s something for everyone!

Walk – with Carol Kuplen, RN, MSN, Chief Operating Officer, St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem & Chief Nursing Officer, St. Luke’s University Health Network. Carol will lead participants on a three mile walk.

Run – with Frank Ford, President, St. Luke’s Allentown Campus. Frank will lead participants on a run.

NEW! Bike & Boat recreation program - offered in partnership with Wildlands Conservancy. Participants will be biking 4.5 miles along the canal towpath (D&L Trail) from Sand Island, Bethlehem to Canal Park, Allentown and then canoeing the 4.5 mile stretch of the Lehigh River back to Sand Island. Get Your Tail on the Trail special discount - $20/person. Price includes all equipment and safety instruction. Register is required through Wildlands Conservancy - space is limited; register directly at www.wildlandspa.org.

Visit the St. Luke’s HealthStar van for information on this month’s healthy living theme – Snack on Health Foods! Participants in the event will have free giveaways, snacks and an opportunity to celebrate health, fitness and nature. Registration is encouraged at St. Luke’s InfoLink 1-866-STLUKES (785-8537).

The event is part of the Get Your Tail on the Trail initiative to encourage people of all ages and all activity levels to get outdoors, get active and explore nature by walking, running or biking the D&L Trails.

• August 2: Midway Celebration! Hugh Moore Park, Easton
• 9 am on Sept 20: Route 33 Boat Launch, Easton

About Tail on the Trail:

This is the second year of the Get Your Tail on the Trail program. The initial challenge launched in Spring of 2013 where 2,500 participants logged a total of 255,000 miles. The program continued through the winter of 2014 with 580 participants tracking 44,000 miles during the Winter Mini-Challenge.

The 2014 Spring Challenge began May 1 and runs through November 2, 2014. Participants will register at www.tailonthetrail.org for this year’s 165 mile challenge. Registrants will log miles via the Trail Tracker on the Get Your Tail on the Trail website and receive great prizes as milestone goals are achieved. For participants looking for an additional challenge, extra prizes can be earned for doubling (330) or tripling (495) miles hiked, biked or jogged.
