St. Luke’s Care Now Offers Walk-In Convenience For Immediate, Quality Medical Care At Four Locations Throughout The Region

Bethlehem, PA (5/28/2014) -- A young professional wakes up the morning of the big meeting with a painful sore throat. Somehow he makes it through the day but by the time he gets home, just swallowing is agony. Suspecting strep, he calls his doctor to find the office closed.

A teenager rides her bike on a Sunday afternoon when a dog runs out in front of her. She slams on the brake, landing hard, skinning her knees and elbows. Concerned her wrist might be broken the girl’s mother calls the doctor’s office to learn it will reopen Monday.

For those unexpected ankle (and life) twist and turns, St. Luke’s Care Now can handle immediate medical needs when your family doctor is not available and your injury or illness is not an acute emergency.

Area residents now have access to four St. Luke’s Care Now centers—Allentown, Bethlehem, Jim Thorpe and Wind Gap—for immediate care and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries.

All St. Luke’s Care Now locations offers extended and weekend hours, making the center  an ideal choice for fast, high-quality care when a patient cannot be seen immediately by their personal physician. Patients receive care from a St. Luke’s provider; no appointment is ever needed.

St. Luke’s Care Now provides treatment for conditions that require immediate attention, but that are not serious enough to warrant a visit to the Emergency Room, according to the center’s medical director Robert Dolansky, DO. This may include fever and flu-like symptoms, sinus infections, bronchitis, sprains, strains, broken bones, dislocations, cuts, minor burns, animal bites and other minor medical concerns.

“Thankfully, not every medical need requires an Emergency Room visit,” says Joe Cunningham, Network Director, Urgent Care Services, St. Luke’s University Health Network. “St. Luke’s Care Now bridges the gap. Patients can walk right in to a St. Luke’s Care Now and be seen by a St. Luke’s primary care provider, making it the quick, practical choice for less serious health concerns that cannot wait. Care is also provided at a lower cost than an emergency room visit. ”

While St. Luke’s Care Now manages unpredictable minor medical needs, it does not replace an individual’s primary care physician or manage chronic health concerns. In addition to walk-in medical care, St. Luke’s Care Now locations offer onsite diagnostic testing, including lab and X-ray services, and occupational medicine services to local employers.
