St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus Awards Academic Scholarships to Students of Seven Area High Schools

Fourteen graduating seniors honored by Board of Trustees and Medical Staff

Coaldale, PA (5/14/2013) – Bill Moyer, President of St. Luke's Hospital – Miners Campus; radiologist James D. Bohri, MD, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of the Medical Staff; and Maureen Donovan, Secretary, Board of Trustees announced the recipients of the St. Luke's Miners Hospital Board of Trustees Scholarship and the St. Luke's Miners Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship.

The Board of Trustees Scholarship and the Medical Staff Scholarship each are $1,000 and presented to a graduating senior from seven area high schools who met the criteria of the award. The criteria required each recipient to be in the top 25% of his/her graduating class and be enrolled as a full time student in an accredited four year college or university in the health care or science field.

“To be able to provide these scholarships to these students is an honor for us at St. Luke's,” said Moyer. “We hope that the young women receiving the awards will return to our area after completing their education and training to provide health care services to the community in which they were raised.”

  • Paige Freeman – Lehighton Area H.S. – intended major Biology at University of Scranton.
  • Natalie Snyder – Tamaqua Area H.S.- intended major Nursing at Cedarville University
  • Molly Balliet – Marian Catholic H.S.- intended major Chemistry at Mansfield University
  • Melody Dillee – Panther Valley Area H.S. - intended major Biology/Physician Assistant at DeSales University.
  • Ann Swokel – Mahanoy Area H.S.- intended major Physical Therapy at Lebanon Valley College
  • Devon Bizarre – Weatherly Area H.S. – intended major Physician Assistant at King's College
