Quakertown, PA. (7/26/2012)St. Luke's Hospital - Quakertown Campus has renamed its Emergency Department in memory of special donor and local businessman Frank Banko, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 92.

In recognition of the generous support of Mr. Banko and his family, the Board of Directors of St. Luke's Hospital - Quakertown Campus has chosen to rename the hospital's Emergency Department. New exterior signage commemorating the Frank Banko & Family Emergency Department was unveiled at the dedication ceremony held on Thursday, July 26.

High Quality Medical Care Recognized

Mr. Banko and his family made this gift to St. Luke's in recognition of the Quakertown hospital's essential role in providing high-quality medical care. “Every community deserves a first-rate hospital and emergency room, a place to turn when illness or injury strikes. In making this gift, our family wanted to do something to benefit the entire Quakertown community, a place my family have called home for many years,” said Frank's son Chip Banko.

Frank Banko had served as president of Warren Distributing Company of Flanders and Trenton, New Jersey, a wholesale beverage distributor, and owner of Banko Real Estate Company, a real estate holding company with holdings in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Mr. Banko was the founder of Banko Business Enterprises and had served as chairman of the Goodfellows Club, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He also served as a director of Embassy Bancorp, the Allentown Fair and the Boys Club of Bethlehem, as well as supporting many local civic organizations through generous donations.

“On behalf of the hospital's Board of Trustees and administration, we gratefully acknowledge the Banko family's very generous gift and are proud to rename the Emergency Department in honor of them,“ said John Sylvia, President, St. Luke's Hospital - Quakertown Campus. “This gift will have a lasting impact on our community through our hospital's continuing ability to offer leading-edge emergency services to our patients.”
