Investing in the Community: St. Luke’s Hospital - Anderson Campus Committed to Local Business Partners

(Building a new hospital in the midst of a recession made St. Luke's Hospital more determined to buy and invest in local businesses)

Bethlehem Township / Easton, PA (3/27/12)St. Luke’s Hospital - Anderson Campus opened its doors for the first time to the community on November 14, 2011. The 256,000 square foot, full-service medical facility offers the community access to the most modern health care. Site planning for the new facility began seven years ago, and at that time St. Luke's planned to design, build and operate a community-based facility where people can heal in comfortable surroundings close to home.

When choosing partners to equip the new facility St. Luke's made a commitment to invest in local businesses. Two such examples of St. Luke's commitment to "buying local" are partnerships with Knoll, Inc. and Olympus America, Inc.

Headquartered in East Greenville, Pennsylvania, 15 minutes south of Allentown, Knoll is an internationally recognized leader in workplace furnishings. Knoll provided the furniture design and installation for several previous expansion projects at St. Luke's. The hospital system returned to Knoll to outfit its newest and most comprehensive expansion, the St. Luke's Hospital - Anderson Campus, located in Easton, PA. St. Luke's believes in Knoll products for their style and comfort, but also because of Knoll's local heritage and responsibility to the environment. Knoll outfitted the new St. Luke's facility with furniture, textiles and accessories in waiting rooms and reception areas; clinical treatment spaces; laboratories; pharmacies and offices.

Hospital President Ed Nawrocki stated, "We are pleased to be working with Knoll. We believe that partnering with greater Lehigh Valley-based businesses is not only good for our hospital but also for our community. The furniture chosen through Knoll will enhance our facilities’ ambiance, providing warmth and comfort for our patients and their families as well as instilling a sense of calm in a healing environment."

Commenting on the St. Luke’s partnership, Lynn Utter, Knoll North America President and COO, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for our associates to provide furniture solutions to a leading healthcare provider. We look forward to St. Luke's continued success in the community.”

The state-of-the-art surgical suites are equipped with the latest medical devices in an innovative setting that enhances nurses’ and physicians’ efficiency and optimizes their ability to provide the highest quality care to their patients.
