Water Main Break at Miners

St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital Experiences Water Main Break

Emergency Department and Outpatient Services Diverted

Coaldale, PA (11/2/2011) - A water main broke at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital early this morning which flooded the first floor Emergency Department and outpatient services.

Currently, inpatient care at the hospital has not been affected.

“At this time, we are able to sustain inpatient operations. As a hospital, we drill for emergencies multiple times throughout the year. Our emergency preparedness prior to events such as this provides us with a foundation on which to work when true emergencies occur,” said Bill Moyer, President, St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital. “I’m proud of our staff for continuing to provide excellent care to our patients under adverse conditions.”

“As we continue to evaluate the situation and hospital operations, updates will be provided to the media and community,” he continued.

A hotline has been established for community and employee calls at 570-645-1500. Recorded information will provide callers with hospital status updates.

Individuals suffering an emergency should call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. Ambulances are being diverted to other hospital emergency rooms, said Moyer.
