New Mobile Website Allows Smart-Phone Users Easy Access to St. Luke’s Hospitals

St. Luke’s Emergency Department Wait Times, Urgent Care Center Locations and Physician Information at Your Fingertips

BETHLEHEM, PA (10-18-2011) - Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. You never know where you’ll be the next time an emergency occurs, but you will want to find the closest St. Luke’s emergency department.  Don’t want to wait long?  Find St. Luke’s emergency room wait times right on your smart phone.

And how can you do this?  Easy… St. Luke’s recently launched a mobile website that allows patients access to important hospital and physician information with ease.

“The mobile website allows patients to find out the wait times for St. Luke’s emergency departments, under which circumstances someone should go to a St. Luke’s Urgent Care Center instead of the emergency room and how to find a doctor all with a few clicks on a smart phone,” said Joel Fagerstrom, Chief Operating Officer, St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network.  “Patients need to key ‘www.slhn.org’ into the internet application on a smart phone and will be connected to St. Luke’s mobile website.  It’s that easy!”

With today’s emerging technology and the immediacy that information is needed, St. Luke’s developed the site to help people make informed health care decisions on the run, said Fagerstrom.  Plus, knowing the patient information phone numbers, the right place to park and visiting hours are important – the “Locations/Visitor Information” on the site provides this and more about St. Luke’s Hospital campuses.  The link also provides answers to frequently asked questions like cafeteria, pharmacy and gift shop hours.

The mobile web site helps patients determine when to visit St. Luke’s Urgent Care centers versus the emergency department.  The “Urgent Care Centers” function in the mobile site allows patients to get directions and hours of operation for St. Luke’s Urgent Care Centers and provides a list of conditions treated at St. Luke’s Urgent Care in Bethlehem or in Jim Thorpe.

For residents who may be new to the area and looking for a primary care physician or looking for a specialist, the “Find a Doctor” function can help. Key information about physicians including contact information and directions are found quickly using the “Find a Doctor” link.  The site is enabled to call the physician’s office directly with just the touch of a button.

Additionally, the events function on the site allows users to locate and register for free educational talks and support groups offered at various sites within the St. Luke’s Network.

Tech savvy users may link directly to St. Luke’s accounts on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube through the mobile site, as well.
