VNA Golf Outing - 2010

St. Luke's VNA's 9th Annual Golf Tournament

Proceeds from May 10 event will
support St. Luke's Hospice

Bethlehem, PA (3/18/2010) – Members of the tournament planning committee for the Visiting Nurse Association of St. Luke's Annual Golf Tournament announced details today for the 2010 tournament.

The Visiting Nurse Association of St. Luke's 9th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on May 10, 2010 at Silver Creek Country Club, Hellertown, PA.

The tournament will be held in honor of Manny Palos, an extraordinary man who lived life with passion. One of his passions was golf. He played as often as he could and at the age of 84, was still walking and carrying his bag. A stroke in 2001 changed his life. When his family knew Manny was nearing the end of his life, they chose hospice care from St. Luke's Hospice.

Tournament co-chair, John Suter, is one of the PGA Professionals playing and a grandson of Manny Palos. “My grandfather lived the last week of his life at St. Luke's Hospice House surrounded by his loving family and the wonderful caring staff of Hospice House. My family and I are proud to be a part of this event for the third year, which enables us to honor the memory of our father and grandfather as well as pay tribute to the wonderful caregivers at St. Luke's Hospice House.”

Two Tournaments in One

This year's event will feature two tournaments in one – scramble format and beat the four PGA pro's better ball score.

“We're excited to bring back the Beat the Pros contest to the tournament this year,” said Suter. “Four local PGA Professionals will play together and record their best score for each hole, known as best ball, while the remaining golfers play a scramble format, meaning they play the best shots from tee to green. We're looking forward to some good, friendly competition. “

Kathy Lentz, VNA Volunteer Program Manager and event co-chair, said, “Proceeds from the 2010 event will benefit the VNA Golf Tournament Fund for Hospice. This permanent endowed fund provides for the maintenance and beautification of the 14-bed Hospice House located on Black River Road in Lower Saucon Township. It also helps us to provide benevolent care to those in need.”

Various player and sponsorship opportunities are available. Anyone interested in supporting this worthwhile cause by golfing or with a sponsorship, should contact Kathy Lentz at 610-997-7132 or
