Conditions Treated and Programs at
St. Luke’s Cancer Center
Cancer is a disease that happens when abnormal cells in the body split and grow out of control. Healthy cells grow, split, and then die. Cancer cells keep growing and make new abnormal cells that can move to other parts of the body. Cancer can be inherited, or caused by lifestyle or environmental factors and can affect people of any age, race or sex. In fact, the American Cancer Society estimates that half of the men and one-third of the women in the United States will develop cancer during their lifetimes.
More people are successfully being treated for cancer now than at any other time in history, because of early detection, breakthroughs in treatment and technology and dedicated health care professionals whose life's work is fighting cancer.
