Robert L. Wax, Esq.

Robby serves as the Senior Vice President & General Counsel for St. Luke's University Health Network. He is responsible for representing the Network in connection with various transactional matters, including physician practice acquisitions, joint ventures, employment agreements and real estate acquisitions, and for providing general advice concerning litigation matters, intellectual property issues and healthcare regulatory matters.

Robby joined St. Luke's in 2004 following seven years in a large, multinational law firm based in Philadelphia, one year as a law clerk for the Honorable Herbert J. Hutton of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and three years as an adjunct professor at the Temple Law School, where he taught a class entitled, "Business Mergers & Acquisitions."

Robby graduated with distinction from The Goizueta Business School of Emory University (BBA 1994) and received his law degree from The James E. Beasley School of Law of Temple University (JD 1997), summa cum laude, where he served as the Articles Editor for the Temple Law Review.

Scott Heckman, Esq.

Scott serves as Vice President & Associate General Counsel for St. Luke's University Health Network. He is responsible for providing advice in all aspects of human resources throughout the Network and representing the Network in both administrative and court proceedings involving labor, employment and education-related matters. Scott also oversees Employee Relations and serves as a senior leader in the Network's Human Resource Department.

Scott started his legal career as an associate in the labor department of a large, multinational law firm based in Philadelphia. Scott was later a founding partner and practiced from 1992 to 2006 with Heimbach, Spitko & Heckman, an exclusively management-side labor and employment law firm in Allentown. That firm merged with Lansdale-based Flamm Walton, P.C. in 2007. In July 2008, Scott joined St. Luke's after representing the Network for over fifteen years as outside counsel.

Scott graduated from Brown University (AB 1986), Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude and with high honors in American History. He received his law degree from The Columbia University School of Law (JD 1989) where he was designated a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

Mark Zolfaghari

Mark serves as the Chief Medical Litigation Officer for St. Luke’s University Health Network. In this role, Mark is responsible for defending the Network, its physicians, hospitals and practice groups in significant medical malpractice litigation.

Mark has spent nearly two decades defending doctors and hospitals against claims of negligence. He began his career at an insurance defense law firm specializing in malpractice defense. In 2006, Mark joined the litigation department of Blank Rome, and he was later elevated to partner. Mark devoted a majority of his time at Blank Rome defending Network physicians and hospitals. He joined St. Luke’s in 2013.

Mark graduated from Bucknell University (BA 1990) and received his law degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law (JD 1995). Prior to attending law school, Mark was a research chemist at DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company.

Jane Markson, Esq.

Jane serves as Associate General Counsel to the Network with a focus on clinical trial agreements and other transactional matters, including purchasing agreements, affiliation agreements, service agreements, general contract matters and general advice regarding various policies and procedures of the Network.

Jane has practiced law for 25 years and joined St. Luke's in 2007. She previously practiced corporate law as an associate at Moses & Singer in New York and consumer finance law at Blank Rome in Philadelphia. She has also served as in-house counsel for the former Chase Manhattan Bank and B. Braun.

Jane graduated from Cornell University (AB 1981), with distinction in all subjects, and received her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (JD 1985), magna cum laude. Jane was the Managing Editor of the Case Western Reserve Law Review.

Jessica Nichols, Esq.

Jessica serves as Associate General Counsel to the Network with a focus on transactional matters, including licensing and technology contracting, real estate issues and general contract and commercial law matters.

Jessica has practiced law for 18 years and has served in a variety of in-house positions for public and private companies. She was previously a partner at the region's largest law firm. Jessica spent eleven years in Northern California and practiced with a large multinational law firm before moving back to her hometown of Allentown.

Jessica graduated from Stanford University (AB 1989) and received her law degree from The University of San Francisco School of Law (JD 1992).

Mark Sblendorio, Esq.

Mark serves as the Vice President of Legal Affairs for St. Luke's Hospital-Warren Campus. He is responsible for transactional matters, which includes physician contracts, general contracts and commercial law matters as they relate to St. Luke's Hospital-Warren Campus.

Mark has practiced law for 14 years and joined Warren Hospital in 2005. He previously practiced corporate healthcare law at several law firms in New Jersey with a concentration in complex financial matters and compliance with tax-exemption requirements.

Mark graduated from Trenton State College (BA 1995) and received his law degree from the Seton Hall Law School (JD 1998). Mark was a member of the Seton Hall Law Review.

Erin LaBar, Esq.

Erin serves as Senior Counsel to the Network. She is responsible for a wide variety of transactional matters, including contract and commercial law matters. Prior to joining St. Luke's in 2010, Erin was a corporate attorney in a large, multinational law firm based in Chicago.

During law school, Erin was an Honors Intern at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and served as a Judicial Intern at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware.

Erin graduated from Saint Joseph's University (BS 2003) and received her law degree from Villanova University School of Law (JD 2007), where she was an Associate Editor of the Villanova Law Review.

Kenneth Vail

Ken serves as Network Director - Insurance Administration. He is responsible for the Network's commercial insurance programs and claims administration of the Network's medical professional liability risk retention group. Ken also assists counsel with various legal, insurance and risk matters and serves as a risk management consultant to all Network entities and personnel.

Ken joined the Network in early 2002, after serving as an independent forensic liability and risk management consultant. Previously Ken served for two decades in various professional and leadership capacities within the commercial insurance industry, including underwriting, claims, risk control and general management functions. Early in his career, Ken also served as a law enforcement officer for a state agency. Ken served as the Network's Patient Safety Officer from 2002 to 2005.

Ken is a graduate of Lafayette College with a degree in Economics & Business. He is a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and holds the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM) professional designations from the Insurance Institute of America. Ken is Pennsylvania Act 235/F Certified. He is a Certified XL Tribometrist (CXLT) and is qualified as an Accident & Illness Prevention Provider by the PA Bureau of Labor & Industry in Pennsylvania.

Jane George, MPA

Jane serves as the Assistant Vice President of Government & Community Relations for the Network. She is responsible for advancing the federal, state and local legislative interests of the Network. In her role, she develops and maintains positive working relationships with elected officials and their staffs, reviews legislation and advocates policy positions on behalf of the Network. She is also a resource for employees, board members and the medical staff on government issues.

Jane joined St. Luke's in 2000 as a member of the Development Department and led the Capital Campaign for St. Luke's Hospital-Allentown Campus. Prior to her position with the Network, Jane worked for several local non-profit agencies and held an appointment position in county government.

Jane graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Marketing (BBA 1984) and received her Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania's Fels Institute of Government (MPA 2013).

 

Sherry Skrip

Sherry serves as the paralegal in the Legal Services Department. She joined the Department in February 2008 as the first paralegal for the Network. In this role, she is responsible for a wide variety of legal functions, including coordinating and tracking contracts, preparing legal documents for attorney review, managing the process for document production and depositions prior to trial and processing claims for litigation.

Sherry has been with the Network for over 25 years with experiences in various areas including the Emergency Department and the Occupational Medicine Department.

Sherry received her Paralegal Certification from Penn State University- Lehigh Valley Campus and her Pennsylvania Notary Commission in September 2008. She continued her education at Northampton Community College in the Paralegal Program and continues to pursue education in this field. Additionally, Sherry is an accomplished chef and received her Culinary Arts Degree from Northampton County Community College's Culinary Arts Program in August 2000.

Nancy Hanson

Nancy serves as the Legal Services Administrative Coordinator. In this capacity, she is responsible for updating various insurance applications and maintaining Network property, joint venture and insured entity lists. In addition, she provides administrative assistance for Legal Services.

Nancy joined St. Luke's in 2002 and helped to create the Legal Services Department. Prior to her position with St. Luke's, Nancy was employed by a large, multinational law firm and then spent seven years as a realtor.

Monica Rex

Monica joined the Legal Services Department in April 2010. She provides administrative support to the members of the department.

Prior to joining the department, Monica worked as a legal assistant for many years while taking paralegal classes at Northampton Community College and Lehigh Carbon Community College. Monica is also fluent in Portuguese.

Jacky joined the Legal Services Department in September 2013. She serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Department.

Jacky joined St. Luke's University Health Network in 2010. She previously served as a Customer Service Representative for HomeStar Medical Equipment and Pharmacy and as a Staff Coordinator for the Visiting Nurse Association of St. Luke's. Jacky received Certificates in Medical Terminology from both Northampton Community College and Lehigh Carbon Community College. She also is fluent in Spanish.
