St. Luke’s Offers Wilderness Medicine Conference

Nurses, Physicians, Pre-Hospital Providers and Outdoor Enthusiasts Welcome

Bethlehem, PA. (5/10/2014) --  St. Luke’s University Health Network is offering a three-day Wilderness Medicine Conference that is open to nurses, physicians, pre-hospital providers and outdoor enthusiasts from May 16 – 18, 2014.  The conference will be held at Skytop Lodge in the Pocono Mountains and may provide up to 20 CEU’s for health care professionals.

Some of the presentations include the following topics: dive medicine, white water rescue, travel medicine, orthopaedic injuries, hypothermia, survival kits, mass casualty, lifesaving procedures, orienteering and head trauma.

Workshops include: mini-med wards, night sky astronomy, transportation, lifesaving procedures, wound care and orienteering.

Wilderness Medicine is a developing field that involves not only providing care to wilderness travelers, but also working in other hostile environments, environmental emergencies and outdoor toxicology.
