Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release (LINS)
Endoscopic carpal tunnel release is a surgical procedure performed with an endoscope to release the carpal ligament and relieve the pressure on the median nerve that causes carpal tunnel syndrome. The endoscope is inserted into the body through a small incision below the wrist. The benefit of using the endoscope is that it allows the procedure to be performed without impacting the tissues in the area. Endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis using a regional anesthetic.
Open Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery
Open carpal tunnel release is a surgical procedure performed to release the carpal ligament and relieve the pressure on the median nerve that causes carpal tunnel syndrome. During open carpal tunnel release surgery, the surgeon makes an incision at the base of the palm to have access to the carpal ligament. After the surgeon cuts the ligament, he or she uses stitches to close the incision. Open carpal tunnel release surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis using a regional anesthetic.
Arthroplasty
Arthroplasty is a procedure during which a surgeon will resurface, remodel, rebuild, or replace an injured joint or one in which a condition such as arthritis is present. It is done to relieve pain, restore range of motion and strengthen muscle systems, and is commonly performed on shoulders, knees and hips.
Arthrodesis (fusion)
Arthrodesis is a surgical procedure that fuses bones in the wrist. A surgeon may use graft material from other bones or metal implants to align and stabilize the wrist joint.
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a type of surgical procedure using an arthroscope. Inserted into a joint, this device allows the surgeon to see joint surfaces, ligaments, tendons and cartilage to diagnose problems or perform surgery to correct problems. Arthroscopic surgery can be performed on any joint, although it is most commonly used in the commonly performed on shoulders, knees and ankles. The benefits of arthroscopy as opposed to traditional open surgery is that it is less painful, less costly, requires less recovery time and usually can be performed on an outpatient basis.
