The St. Luke's Center for Neuroscience is dedicated to expert care of conditions of the nervous system. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

Commonly called Lou Gehrig's DiseaseAmyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)  attacks nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. These nerve cells reach from the brain to the spinal cord then to the body's muscles. When these cells die as a result of ALS, the brain loses the ability to control muscle movement.

Aneurysms

An aneurysm is a weak spot on the wall of a blood vessel, most often an artery. If an aneurysm bursts, immediate medical attention is needed. Surgery may stop the bleeding and prevent the aneurysm from happening again.

Balance Disorders

The physicians and staff of the St. Luke's Balance Center will provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for patients with all types of balance disorders.

Brain Tumors

The St. Luke's Center for Neuroscience specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors. A brain tumor is the result of irregular cell growth in the brain.

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a brain disorder involving seizures, which are brief disturbances of brain function that change attention and/or behavior. Seizures can last a few seconds to a few minutes, and can have a variety of symptoms.

Headaches

Headaches are episodes of pain that happen above the eyes or ears, behind the head, or in the upper neck area. There are three primary types of headache. The St. Luke's Headache Center can help diagnose and treat headaches.

Memory Disorders

Alzheimer's Disease is a brain illness marked by declining mental ability. Although symptoms may vary, the first problem many people notice is forgetfulness and difficulty doing everyday activities. Dementia also is considered a memory disorder. Movement Disorders

Our specialists are skilled in testing for movement disorders and developing treatment plans for Parkinson's Disease, tremors and other movement disorders.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain and spinal cord. MS prevents the nerves from carrying electrical impulses from the brain, and can affect daily function, including memory, mood, and motor skills. Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a chronic disease caused by a transmission breakdown between the body's muscles and nerves. This disease most commonly affects muscles that control facial expressions, eye movement and swallowing.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a condition caused by an abnormal increase of fluid in the brain. NPH is most common in the elderly population.

Peripheral Nerve Disease

Peripheral nerve diseases are caused by damage to nerves throughout the body's nervous system. Damage to motor nerves can cause loss of muscle control, muscle weakness, reduced movement and reduce sensory function.

Sleep Disorders

The St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Centers help evaluate, test and treat problems with sleeping. Without proper sleep, a person may suffer fatigue, irritability, reduced attention, concentration and memory, mood changes and more. A high accident rate, accelerated heart disease and even death can be associated with sleep disorders.

Stroke

The St. Luke's Stroke Center in Bethlehem and Allentown features a 24-hour, multidisciplinary emergency response team for the management of acute stroke patients, as well as a team of health care providers dedicated to the ongoing care of stroke victims.
